MIDTOWN TALKING: WHAT ARE YOUR ROOTS?

A philosophical question we’d like to discuss. Midtown Lively hit the streets to hear from neighbors and visitors. We appreciate and value what the Midtown community is saying. Here are some of their opinions:

My roots are: soil – family – compost – music – art – good food – community that grounds me – sowing seeds in the spring time – floating on beach waves in the summer – jumping into piles of leaves in autumn – throwing snowballs in the winter!

– Alex Epstein

My roots span around the world from my ancestors of Ashkenazi heritage to family in the U.K. and Ireland. My roots are my lived experiences that have shaped me profoundly, from my time in West Africa to my experiences in community. Kingston has allowed me to establish roots.

– Amanda Cassiday

Mi desedencia es de la cultura Maya Q’eqchi. Soy de Guatemala, especialmente en el departemente de Peten del municipio de San Luis de la Aldea la Pimienta.

– Joél Pop

I would say my roots are in the fire. My roots are from Oaxaca, Tuxtepec, and in Puerto Rico. In both places they call it the Hill of the Rabbit. So conejo is where my roots are, the place where the rabbits are.
