July 4th Fireworks Display The City of Kingston plans to celebrate the Fourth of July in style with a fireworks display. Sponsored by Ole Savannah and O’Connor & Partners, the fireworks will be set off from a barge in the Rondout Creek and will be visible from TR Gallo Park, just after dark. There will be no pre-fireworks entertainment.

When: July 4 from 9-9:30pm.

Where: Waterfront, Kingston.

BFK Slow Ride Bike Friendly Kingston is happy to announce monthly “Slow Rides” this summer. Slow Rides are guided group rides meant for all abilities done at a slow pace. They are a great way to explore Kingston neighborhoods and gain confidence riding a bicycle. Participants should wear helmets, have front and rear lights, bring water and wear comfortable clothing. A ride waiver will need to be signed. Route lengths will vary from 5-20 miles and are hosted by different bicycle leaders.

Laser Focus Fun Fitness Program by MyKingstonKids This is a week long, fun filled, action packed, fitness program that incorporates military training, laser tag, martial arts and team building activities. It is geared towards providing a platform where participants can develop or enhance their minds and bodies in physical fitness, social skills, peer pressure, bullying and mindfulness. Our goal is to provide participants with lifestyle skills that not only help them deal with personal (internal and external) challenges but keeps them focused, disciplined and enhances their ability to reach their greatest potential in anything they do. Children ages 7-14. YOU MUST REGISTER TO ATTEND.

When: July 18, 4pm.

BRAZZMATAZZ MUSIC FESTIVAL Family-Friendly Rural Brass Band with a Circus Vibe!! Featuring the “Brass Queens”. Brass Queens is an 8-piece brass band whose music is deeply inspired by the New Orleans tradition, which influences their sound that spans various genres. Hailing from Brooklyn, NY, the Brass Queens features an all-female horn section with the goal of expanding the space for women in a male-dominated industry.

When: July 23 from 2pm-10pm.

Learning in the Garden Series: Inviting Creepy Crawlies Into Your Garden Do you cringe at caterpillars? Shy away from spiders? Do battle with the beetles? It’s time to rethink and understand why you should HELP not harm “the little things run the world” (E.O. Wilson). This is a free event with a special activity for youth (ages 4 and up).

When: July 16, 10am-1:30pm

Where: SUNY Ulster Xeriscape Garden, Kingston.

The 8th Annual Celebration of the Arts EXPO The 8th annual EXPO will feature a full day of workshops in a variety of arts genres— examples include wheel throwing, clay hand building, figure drawing, instrument making, virtual Reality, photography, painting, comics and more. Professional working artists from Kingston will lead all of the workshops with assistance from PUGG our teen workforce interns.

When: July 23, 10am – 3pm.

Where: Kingston Center of SUNY Ulster, 94 Mary’s Avenue, Kingston.

Latin Night at Energy Square Fridays *Free Event* Bring your dancing shoes and feel free to singalong and dance the evening away as “Alessandra” performs an array of latin classics! Make sure you come with an empty belly so you can enjoy some Dominican Cuisine from our wonderful Pop Up Restaurant, Rose Creations and enjoy exhibitions and stands from our local artists.

WITH DIFFERENT EYES: A Covid Waltz in Words & Images, by Paul Smart and Richard Kroehling, hits book stores on July 1, with reading events throughout the Hudson

Valley in July. Come hear a reading and get signed copies of the book July 26, 6-10pm for reading and live music.
