Constant Change

It is said that the only constant is change—and here at Country Wisdom News, we believe it. We always have to be open to change in order to let the natural flow of the paper to take on new and unexpected forms. When we do this, a magical synchronicity blossoms within these pages.

Sometimes we see change take the form of a new writer, or a new column. Sometimes it’s the exciting change of moving into a new office, while other times it’s the overwhelming experience of working with an amazing new editor like Marie Doyon.

But this month we ventured into a big change—Country Wisdom News is now a tabloid size instead of a broadsheet. I really like the large format of a broadsheet, but tabloids can be easier to read. The change also inspires us to add more handmade art and fun design elements.

Although I’ve been considering this change for a few years now, it was my amazing sister, Melissa Hewitt, who brought the change to life with a new design that made the switch easier. Melissa and I used to create publications together (starting with X-press and The Movement magazines), but we’ve been working independently for almost a decade now—her on VISITvortex, me on CWN.

I’m very happy to be working with her again, not only because she’s the best big sister ever but also because she is so easy to work with. Working on new ideas with her means they will be refined and improved. Discussions flow like a river’s malleable waters. The application of ideas and discussions finds the path of least resistance in order to accomplish success.

Now that we’re in a new year, it’s a perfect time to embrace change. This morning David Bowie reminded me about Changes, with these lyrics:

Still don’t know what I was waitin’ for / And my time was runnin’ wild / A million dead end streets and / Every time I thought I’d got it made / It seemed the taste was not so sweet / So I turned myself to face me / But I’ve never caught a glimpse of / How the others must see the faker / I’m much too fast to take that test

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes / Turn and face the strange

As always, send us your stories, ideas, and thoughts. We’re always looking to share.
